Taking Effective Altruism seriously

Ya’ll know I’ve been doing the deep dive on Effective Altruism this month, and whilst digging into the concept of moral progress, I stumbled upon a dude on YouTube who was ripping EA a new asshole. Of course, I thought it would be fun to talk with this person. It was…

…not. This person wanted to remain anon (y?), and lemme tell you, I’ve never had such a serious conversation with a faceless entity. I don’t think I’ll do it again, but I think this is a unique conversation, in the sense that I won’t have this kind of conversation very often

If you want to talk with me there you must be willing to talk face-to-face or make me laugh till I pee myself. Preferably both. This guy was neither. Granted, he brought up some things I hadn’t thought about, and probably vice versa, but I wouldn’t call this conversation “fun”. This is not to say that I didn’t attempt to inject some fun into it. I mean, this cat has children from a sperm bank - great material - and he didn’t laugh ONE time. Come on man!
