Hi, my friends.
It’s been a while since I gave you a more personal update on goings-on, but I’m in the mood, so lesssgoooo:
I’ve been podcasting, and tiktoking, (of course, and IG finally released my content for the masses so I’m picking up meme-driven traction), but I’ve also been settling back into a writing groove. Today, I sat down with the intent of writing my second piece for Discourse magazine’s Open Inquiry initiative, and while I got in the groove I felt an urge to let you know where I am in this journey. A lot of you have by my side for the past couple of years after I quit my job and tried to figure out how to write, start a podcast, and a million other things in between. I felt like I owed it to you to let you know that I think I’m starting to figure it out. (I mean, maybe next week will be different, but let’s roll with it for today.)
My wonderful writing companions in the Open Inquiry initiative (formerly known as the semi-ousted Heterodox Academy writer’s group) helped us link up with Discourse Magazine, a Mercatus Center publication from George Mason University, where the editor-in-chief, David Masci, has been an absolute darling to work with. I’ve written a piece reflecting on my Popperian TikTok readings, and it was pretty well received. I’m working on another two-part essay, and I’m hoping writing in a slightly more personal style will work well. As ya’ll know, I’ve got this divergent style that is sometimes scholastic but always irreverent. It’s a difficult niche to be in, but it’s getting easier, and this partnership with Discourse is giving me confidence that I’ll be able to pursue it fully.
So, I’m very grateful to you all, Discourse, and my Open Inquiry friends for supporting me on this journey, and as always, if you want more of my raw, unfiltered words, I’d love to do more… but you know I’m shy. So, I do it behind a paywall, and until there’s a critical mass of subscribers I publish relatively few of these gems. Although, I do fucking LOVE to write them. I could gush over ya’ll forever and some of your faces just stick out in my mind when I think about how important it is to support creatives early in their career, but I’ll save that for behind the paywalls since a few tears will be extracted.
As a small token of my affection here’s the whole first essay (which Discourse doesn’t mind that I cross-post), but please do subscribe to Discourse to read a bunch of articles from the Open Inquiry initiative! They publish writers like me, so I suspect you’ll enjoy their content.
