Big fan of Heather and her outlook on the world. The discussions she had during CoVid definitely gave me a better way to analyze my own thinking on the topic. I was one of the people who was against the measures from the beginning, but it was Bret and Heather's dialogue that helped me properly evaluate why I thought that way and how I might be wrong.

Really good discussion with her. I think it would've been interesting to put forward some of her ideas of well created movies and television shows. Assuming I'm remembering correctly, I think she said at one point that Doctor Who is a show that seems to be very good on the question of evolution elsewhere in the universe.

Yeah! I think you might be on to something. Hearing more personal thoughts from thinkers helps give us context about them.

It’s funny how you talked about not being able to create controversy and benefit from that. I have been having similar problems. My few places where I expected controversy haven’t necessarily lead to anything. I wrote a piece about communism and fascism which I expected to cause a problem. It has minor impact but instead of anything going viral, I got restricted.

My pieces no longer were allowed in certain places which up until then had been very open.

I don't think creating controversy is the way. I think it's a cheap shot, but when it's authentic, it works. Fascism and communism are so commonplace in discussion now it means almost nothing. Just keep following what interests you.

Oh that’s generally what I do. It’s in the context of what I love. There’s a show with a very obvious metaphor for communism and so I explored it.

But I expected it to be more controversial than it ended up being. The intent is to come at topics like that honestly. I don’t believe in actively courting controversy but I’m not naive about what can happen when you touch on a topic like that.

Funny enough, you mention in the interview that you kinda stayed away from the CoVid topic because of the early push back in the lab leak idea. I took the opposite approach though not in my own writing. The writing I did was a refuge from the more controversial discussions I was having.

Dr Heying and her husband were a great source of thought around the issue.
