What is a simp?
Currently, Simp-ing is a wistful position. The Simp is pining for the affections of a woman, and he (arguably) does too much for her. A simp can be self-aware, but the term is usually referred to with a negative connotation.
Suckers Idolizing Mediocre Pussy. The internet has created the acronym, and there is evidence for simps dating back to pre-historic times, but the term ‘simp’ traces back to hip-hop. Shocking.
In 1987, DJ Evil E claims to be “Taking out all simps and suckers” on Ice-T’s “Our Most Requested Record”. In this case, simp describes men that let their women get away with too much.
Simp has many meanings:
a short form of simpleton,
an overly emotional man (Drake),
and others I’m sure I missed.
The Drake video is an interesting one. DJ Akademiks cites Drake for turning “the feeling 3 seconds after you cum into a whole 3-minute song”. This makes me think that simping has to do with oxytocin.
Oxytocin (OT) is considered the “love hormone”. It has a lot of interplay with sex and bonding. It’s an important hormone during labor but is also released at the time of orgasm in both men and women.1
Women release more, of course because women are better2.
Maybe simps have a higher level of OT than other men at orgasm, but I think in order to come to this conclusion, simps would have to cum to conclusion, easy enough as long as the experiment is solo-dolo.
OT does seem to be a likely culprit in simping behavior, though. Higher oxytocin levels might allow for more “rose-colored glasses” in bonded pairs, so maybe this is true for a bonded single too3?
No wonder people are mad at simps. They’re on some good drugs.
Simp ramped up over the past year or so on TikTok in videos poking fun of a simp, guy who buys a girl things, comforts her, especially online, and generally takes care of her without reciprocity, namely sex. This definition is aligned with the term beta male. People who use the term beta male as an insult seem to be angry.
If you’re angry at someone for being a simp or a beta male, it could be that you
a) are jealous of their vulnerability or love (this applies ONLY if the simp-ject is in a relationship where sex is being exchanged… sometimes)
b) don’t understand love (again, the Simp in question must be in love and/or a relationship)
c) find male emotion revolting
d) think of masculinity like a caveman
e) homie is simping for your girl ( although if you're smart, you'd consider yourself lucky to have some dork doing your dirty work)
f) think this kind of behavior will contribute to the downfall of our society.
Any way you slice it, if you’re a man calling someone a simp, you live in Hatersville.
But why?
It’s simp - le: You can’t deal with male emotion, maybe you’re own. Or maybe you have low oxytocin. Or maybe you hate women. Either way, you a hater.
If you’re mad about someone who is in a relationship treating their partner well (simping for them)… you are the King of Haters. You too, my Queens.
Now that I’ve pissed you off, allow me to piss off a different segment of the population:
Simp is a term reserved for XY.
Sorry not sorry, but it appears (at this moment) sex, not gender, matters here. You don’t see uterus-havers being called simps, nor “Womxn”, femmes, them-bos, gentlethems, transwomen/men… what have you. No, no. A simp can only be a ding-dong slangin’, XY-haver. Lucky them.
What about the Simp’s love interest? Is there no ire left for her?
Of course, there is. There’s enough hate for everybody!
Who is she?
She can be anyone, but more often than not in the world of TikTok and Insta she probably looks kinda like this:
Why do haters hate her?
She is seen as using her femininity and sexuality to further her ambitions, and haters still don’t like to see women do that. It’s regarded as yucky. She may be seen as a siren, sending wayward men (and society of course) to their doom
Or … they’re jealous: jealous of her ability to attract male attention and emotion, jealous of her ability to get what she wants.
Either way: Hater’s gonna hate.
I’ll stop here and save the idea of selling ourselves for another post.
