I liked the question, how do you see yourself in them. There are so many creators out there whom I resonate with. Instead of analysing like you, I made a spectrum of who resonates more with me along with various parameters. Like ideation, storytelling, practical advice, etc. I have been working on that visual from a long time, each time it expands and contracts accordingly but this sheet is worth the time.

Yeah that works too! I've got a bunch, and did this with all of them to hone in on what I like and what reflects. Love it.

You know I love a good writing / thought exercise. Think you've locked onto something really useful and potentially insightful with this one. I'll let you know how it goes.

Now we test the limits of SubStack's comment length:

- First note is that I think it’s important to realize what kind of content creator you’re talking about - for example, most of the people I admire on Instagram are very different from those on SubStack who, in turn, are very different from those on Tik Tok.

For my personal taste, e.g. the feeds that have resulted from my own curation, the people I admire on Instagram are those making art or comics or photography and the social media aspect is merely sharing or informative. The people I admire on SubStack (or other writing platforms) are people who I think write well and have something to say. By total contrast, the people I admire on TikTok are just people I think are funny or have an interesting point of view. The exception that proves the rule is YouTube where some people I follow make things, others have something to say, and others are just funny.

But in all those cases, the medium (aka teh ¡Algorithm!) dictates what kind of content you’ll find there. I think it’s worth asking if a given creator’s content format would work on a different platform? And then asking how that applies to your own content.

- Second, creator burnout is real. As I applied this to a few of my favorites, I realized how few post on a regular basis anymore, especially on TikTok. Platforms like YouTube and SubStack that are more permissive (again, via teh ¡Algorithm!) of weekly or monthly uploads seem to have far less burnout; whether correlation or causation, I can’t say, but the type of content seems to have a similar fade - lifestyle, meta, and of-the-moment vloggers & TikTokers (heh - tokers) seem to burn out much more quickly than writers, video essayists, and artists.

Anyway, just quick thoughts as I went through your worksheet. Solid idea, very curious to see how it gets refined as others go through it, too.

Yes, this was first aimed at tiktok creators, but I started to think about it from the perspective of substack. It's hard to "connect" with people through longer form written content. Reading between the lines is tougher, comments are longer and more formal, and it just requires more effort. I don't think it necessarily creates a deeper connection, but probably more substantive.

Overall, I still think the draw really is about how someone makes you feel - especially about yourself.

Didn't think about tHe AlOgiRrithM at all in writing this. Was just thinking about the moment when you see your favorite creators content. I could hone in on that a bit more and tailor this for different media platforms.

I also didn't really have an outcome beyond trying to figure out what it was that attracted me to my favorite creators. Now that I know that, I could expand on it with more detail. And I might 🤣.

Thanks for co-creating with me. This is the shit that makes my day 🤗
